The defence had argued that the case be struck off the roll, while the State agreed to only provisionally withdraw the case, citing concerns for the 15-year-old victim’s difficulties in dealing with the matter.
Regional National Prosecutions Authority (NPA) spokeswoman Phindi Louw said it was not the end of the court case
“The trial has been provisionally withdrawn pending further investigation and after new information emerged,” she said.
The rape allegedly took place in a toilet at a restaurant in Greenside, Johannesburg, last year. The teenager alleged that the 24-year-old followed her to a bathroom and raped her.
The father of three was granted bail of R7,000 by the court last year.
