Update

OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The wildfire has been contained and extinguished. 

Affected areas in Meiringspoort, as well as areas next to a farm along the foot of the mountain, were thoroughly mopped up today.

Minimal open flames on the mountain self-extinguished as colder weather set in. Meiringspoort and the southern mountain slopes received rain, and these areas are now extinguished. 

Resources have been downscaled; however, a night crew will continue to monitor the northern boundary and affected areas. 

All critical assets were protected. Various donors, including McDonald’s Oudtshoorn and Elvis Brew, are thanked for their generous donations. 

If you spot a veld or wildfire, please report it immediately to the GRDM Emergency Call Centre on 044 805 5071 or via WhatsApp on 081 709 5193.
