OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The wildfire on the Swartberg Mountain near Oudtshoorn remains uncontained, with active fire behaviour continuing on both the southern and northern slopes.
On the southern side, fire activity persists in steep and difficult terrain.
Strong south-westerly winds are currently limiting suppression efforts, with active firelines estimated at approximately 2 to 3 kilometres.
Firefighters will continue suppression efforts as conditions allow, particularly once wind speeds decrease.
On the northern side, the fire has burned down from the mountain crest and is spreading slowly due to rocky terrain and sparse vegetation.
The fire remains approximately 1.5km from a game farm fence, and at this stage no infrastructure is threatened during the current operational period.
Aerial firefighting resources remain on standby as part of contingency planning, should conditions become favourable.
Firefighting operations are being conducted by teams from Garden Route District Municipality, the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association, CapeNature, Working on Fire, and affected landowners.
If you spot a veld or wildfire, please report it immediately to the GRDM Emergency Call Centre on 044 805 5071 or via WhatsApp on 081 709 5193.
