GEORGE NEWS - The popular annual mountain/gravel biking and trail running event hosted by Blanco Gemeente is back with a fresh identity and exciting new offerings.
Formerly known as the Tour de Farm, the event has been officially rebranded as the Toeri Plaas Challenge, reflecting its strong local roots and community-driven character.
The 2026 Toeri Plaas Challenge will take place on Saturday 18 April with the race village once again based at 4 Brothers Aartappelstoor in Blanco. Entries are now open, and organisers are inviting cyclists, runners and families to take part in what promises to be a memorable day of sport, scenery and celebration.
The name Toeri Plaas – meaning “touring the farm” – perfectly captures the spirit of the event, which takes participants through working farmlands and rugged natural terrain rather than conventional race routes. While the name has changed, the heart of the event remains the same: bringing people together to enjoy the outdoors in a welcoming, family-friendly environment.
Participants can choose from a wide range of distances suited to both competitive athletes and casual outdoor enthusiasts.
Trail runners can enter the 5km, 11km or 21km routes, while cyclists have a choice of 11km, 22km, 35km, 55km and 70km gravel and mountain bike options. Family-friendly entries include a 5km fun run and an 11km fun ride.
In celebration of Blanco Gemeente’s 75th anniversary, a special 75km route will be introduced for the first time in 2026.
Electric bicycles are also welcome, making the event even more inclusive. Another new addition is a scooter track for young children, ensuring there is something for every age group.
All routes start and finish at 4 Brothers Aartappelstoor and wind through private farm roads in the Blanco, Geelhoutboom and Jonkersberg areas.
Participants can expect challenging and varied terrain, including mountain sections, farm and gravel roads, a ride through an old stable and even a crossing over a dam wall. The routes showcase the best of the Garden Route’s agricultural landscapes, with rolling hills and sweeping views.
There will be ample water points along the way, as well as food and refreshments at the venue. Participants and supporters can enjoy pancakes, burgers, boerewors rolls and other treats throughout the day.
Organisers are working closely with Chain Gang Events to ensure a safe, well-organised and enjoyable experience for everyone. With its mix of sport, scenery and community spirit, the Toeri Plaas Challenge has become a highlight on the local running and cycling calendar.
