Modern warfare continues to evolve, with technology playing an increasingly important role in achieving operational objectives. Drones, cyber capabilities and long-range precision strikes have transformed the battlefield. However, despite these technological advancements, the importance of ground forces and close combat remains undeniable. While technology can neutralise targets from a distance, securing and holding territory, as well as establishing effective control on the ground, often requires the presence of soldiers. This is where close combat fighting training plays a crucial role, equipping soldiers with the skills and capabilities needed to operate effectively in close-quarter engagements. The Infantry School in Oudtshoorn recently presented a close combat fighting training demonstration, highlighting the continued importance of preparing soldiers for the realities of modern warfare.
