In Stellenbosch at the Eikestad Primary School voting station the wrong ballot papers were initially used. The station was closed for a while when it was discovered that a Cederberg ballot paper was used. Anthea Serritslev, the DA Chief Whip of the Cape Town Metro, told George Herald, “The people in the queue left but they must come back to vote; all is sorted,” Serritslev said.
Trevor Davids, spokesperson for the IEC, confirmed that the outer box was incorrectly stamped and allocated. “All is back on track at Eikestad Primary voting station. We collected ballot papers from other polling stations.”
The situation in the Southern Cape seems to be running smoothly. An IEC polling station tent in Hessequa blew away in the rain but was replaced and up and running before opening time.
