Zoe Tyatya confirms resignation as Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality’s mayor

OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Cllr Zoe Tyatya has confirmed his resignation as mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality following discussions with the leadership of the ANC.

In a statement issued today, 6 August, Tyatya said he has been redeployed to other responsibilities within the organisation and has accepted the decision as a disciplined ANC member.

He remains a councillor of the Oudtshoorn Municipality, however.

“Throughout my term as executive mayor, I served at the behest of my party, and I continue to respect and uphold its decisions,” he said.

Tyatya said he believed the interests of the ANC and the communities it serves should always take precedence over individual positions. He thanked the municipal council, administration and residents of Greater Oudtshoorn for their support during her time in office.

“I remain committed to the ANC’s mission of building a better life for all, and I look forward to serving in whatever capacity the organisation deems fit,” he said.

Tyatya also called on ANC members and structures to remain united and support the incoming leadership as the municipality continues its work on service delivery.

Her resignation follows a period of political uncertainty in the municipality, including the recent changes involving the mayoral position and speaker of council.
