Update
DYSSELSDORP NEWS - Due to the swift reaction of officials and technicians from Eskom and the Oudtshoorn Municipality, the water supply has been restored to homes in Dysselsdorp today, 19 October.
Dysselsdorp and the rural water scheme suffered a total loss of water when an Eskom transformer at the purification plant burnt out on Monday.
Eskom and Municipal technicians worked around the clock to install a mini substation that Eskom brought in from Cape Town on Tuesday morning. The water supply was turned on earlier today and by this afternoon most areas in Dysselsdorp had access to water.
Restoring water supply to the rural water scheme will unfortunately still take several days.
Although the water supply has been restored, residents are urged to use water sparingly as there are still some technical issues which are receiving attention.
The Executive Mayor, Chris Macpherson commended Eskom for the efficient response and would also like to thank Municipal officials and workers for their hard work during this critical time.
“I would also like to make special mention of the eight lorry drivers who were willing to work right through the night to deliver water to several points in Dysselsdorp and surrounding areas. The past few days have proven that teamwork is critical to the welfare of the whole community.”
