OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Reverend Mzwandile Molo, who hails from Bongolehthu Township in Oudtshoorn, has been elected General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches (SACC).
Molo was officially appointed as the General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches (SACC) by its National Executive Committee, with the appointment confirmed during the SACC Triennial Conference held from 15 to 17 October in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
This esteemed organisation, a beacon of faith and social justice in South Africa plays a vital role in advocating for the marginalized and fostering unity across diverse communities.
According to Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe of the Bongolethu Development Initiative, Molo's election marks a significant moment, not just for the SACC, but for the nation as a whole. "His journey is marked by resilience, dedication, and a deep-rooted commitment to serving others and embodies the spirit of transformation and progress South Africa strives for."
"Growing up in Bongolethu instilled in him a profound understanding of the challenges faced by ordinary South Africans. Economic hardship and social inequalities were not abstract concepts but lived realities that shaped his worldview and fueled his desire to make a difference.
"His childhood experiences navigating the turbulent years of apartheid solidified Rev. Molo's commitment to social justice. These formative encounters with injustice laid the foundation for his future leadership within the church and the community."
His career has been marked by a steadfast commitment to the values of the SACC. His address to the Black Methodist Consultation in 2018 revealed a deep understanding of community challenges and a passionate call for action. He urged the church to transition "from dependency to agency," empowering individuals to become "architects with God of what the future must be." This message aligns seamlessly with the SACC's mission to uplift and empower those who are spiritually, socially, and economically marginalised.
His election as General Secretary is a testament to his dedication and the trust he has earned within the organization. This position allows him to amplify his impact, leading the SACC in addressing critical issues such as poverty, inequality, and environmental justice.
Mangqwengqwe says Molo envisions an SACC that actively engages with the challenges facing South Africa, acting as a moral compass and a catalyst for positive change. He aims to strengthen the organization's advocacy efforts, promoting social and economic justice, national reconciliation, and environmental sustainability. In his new role, he seeks to build on the SACC's track record of advocacy and empowerment.
Monwabisi Maclean, also a member of the Bongolethu Development Initiative, said Molo's election as General Secretary of the SACC brings a renewed sense of hope and inspiration to the community and the nation.
"His journey from the streets of Bongolethu to this position of leadership is a testament to his resilience and unwavering commitment to serving others. He embodies the transformative power of faith and the spirit of the South African people."
