OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Today, Friday 1 May, marks the implementation of the level 4 lockdown regulations released by Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

Residents are reminded of the following:

Compulsory wearing of face masks
As from today, a person must wear a cloth face mask or a homemade item that covers the nose and mouth when in a public place, or another appropriate item to cover the nose and mouth.

Movement of persons
• A person may only leave their place of residence to walk, run or cycle between the hours of 06:00 to 09:00, within a five kilometre radius of their place of residence; provided that this is not done in organised groups.

• Every person is confined to his or her place of residence from 20:00 until 05:00 daily, except where a person has been granted a permit to perform an essential or permitted service as listed in Annexure D or is attending to a security or medical emergency. Attendance of funerals
• Regulations on attendance of funerals remain the same. See section 18(1) of this regulation. (The link to the regulation is at the bottom of this article.)

Places and premises closed to the public
• Any place or premises normally open to the public where religious, cultural, sporting, entertainment, recreational, exhibitional, organisational or similar activities may take place, is closed.
• Any place or premises normally open to the public or where people may gather, are prohibited. 

These include:

• Public parks, sports grounds and fields, beaches and swimming pools
• Flea markets
• Fetes and bazaars
• Night clubs
• Casinos
• Hotels, lodges, bed and breakfasts, airbnbs’, timeshare facilities and resorts, and guest houses, except to the extent that they are required for remaining tourists confined to hotels, lodges and guest houses;
• Private and public game reserves except to the extent that they are required for remaining tourists confined to private and public game reserves;
• Holiday resorts except to the extent that they are required for remining tourists confined to such holiday resort;
• Taverns and shebeens, or similar establishments;
• Theatres and cinemas; and
• Museums

• Persons rendering security and maintenance services may continue to perform these services at the places or premises listed in this regulation.
• The Cabinet member responsible for cooperative governance and traditional affairs may, by direction in the Gazette, determine and other place or premises that must be closed, if there is a risk to any person or members of the public being exposed to COVID-19.

Sale, dispensing or transportation of liquor
• The sale, dispensing and distribution of liquor is prohibited.

Tobacco products, e-cigarettes and related products
• The sale of tobacco, tobacco products, e-cigarettes and related products is prohibited.
