ELECTON NEWS - There will inevitably be some hiccups on voting day.
Here's how to deal with them.
Lost your ID?
Your identity document (ID) is the one and only form of identification accepted at voting stations. Not even your driver's licence will do. If it so happens that on voting day you lose your identity document (ID), there is an alternative.
The offices of the Department of Home Affairs will be open and you can go and apply for a temporary ID immediately and be issued with one right there. Hours: 6 and 7 May from 08:00 - 18:30 and on 8 May 07:00 - 19:00.
Take along R70 and two identical ID photos.
Name not on the voters' roll?
If you arrive at the voting station and your name is not on the voters' roll, it is too late to remedy the situation. You should have registered beforehand. Registration has already closed.
How to check if you are registered:
• Log onto the IEC's website, www.elections.co.za; or
• SMS your ID number to 32810 (R1 per SMS).
To complain or report irregularities at a voting station
• Complaints or irregularities at a voting station can be reported to the presiding officer at the voting station, or you can contact the local IEC office on 044 873 2347.
