The mining town of Northam in Limpopo hosted the three-day festival at the weekend.
The packed lineup had a balance of all genres including hiphop even though the festival is predominantly a rock festival.
Although there were awkwardly performed jokes about paedophiles from comedian Lazola Gola to failed stage dives from UK rock band The Curious Incident, the festival, themed The Fantastic MrVosVos, united thousands of people not only in dust but also in music.
Once again solidifying its title as South Africa’s biggest and best music festival, this year’s lineup offered something for everyone.
After this weekend, rapper AKA and his girlfriend, DJ Zinhle, could be South Africa’s Jay-Z and Beyonce as a power couple.
Both gave stellar individual performances, with AKA, reminding everyone on Saturday evening why he is hip-hop royalty.
Then on Sunday night, DJ Zinhle drew a few thousand people to a dusty hill for her first performance since giving birth to their daughter and no one could argue that she was spectacular.
The music may have been great but the dust showed no fear or favour and neither did the sun.
While a few thousand people were rocking to the sounds of Francios van Coke, only a few hundred were being enlightened by Soweto band Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness, who had the audience chanting to their ancestral blend of physically and emotionally passionate tribal funk mixed with rap.
