TOURISM NEWS - Wholesome fun is key when on holiday with kids. Here are a few options to consider for parents who like to join in the action when their offspring are having the time of their lives.
The Pottery in York Street, George at the old Wonki Ware factory premises, makes the most delicious pizzas to nibble on while you get creative and paint your own ceramic.
Make sure you do this at the beginning of your holiday to allow a few days for the glazing of the finished product. It could double up as a lovely Christmas gift for an appreciative family member.
Day visitors are welcome at Island Lake Holiday Resort, in Hoekwil Road just off Wilderness. Go early to secure one of the ten shaded spots. It is a lovely place to have a braai while the children play in a designated area on the seam of the lake or on the massive lawn surrounding the picnic area.
Remember to take swimming gear, floaties and a soccer ball.
Timberlake Village between Wilderness and Sedgefield is in a class of its own. Lots of little shops and delis with interesting goodies, and a chance for real adventure - Acrobranch like a tree acrobat through the forests of the Garden Route National Park. Different levels of difficulty ensure options for the whole family.

Horse trails can be a family experience. Perdepoort Horse Trails in Wilderness Heights, 6km from the village, offers rides on a beautiful 65ha private farm through an indigenous forest. Children and novice riders are safe, and more experienced riders can have lots of fun trotting and cantering!
Booking is essential. Other options include Black Horse Trails (Wilderness) and Garden Route Horse Trails (George).
Elevate Action Centre in George is an indoor trampoline park with more than 70 connected trampolines (over 600m²) and a state-of-the-art go-kart track to get your blood pumping. These fun activities are for young and old.
Surfends Surf School in Victoria Bay offers surf camps for the youngsters and all-year-round surf lessons for all ages. Quite a few moms and dads have joined in the fun of riding the foamies, while others enjoy the beach or a drink at Vicci's Restaurant while their children learn a new skill.
The Garden Route Botanical Garden at the top end of Davidson Street is always worth visiting. While it is enough of a treat to walk around the dam or picnic in the garden, it is also worth visiting the Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre situated in the garden.
The centre does rehabilitation of all raptors and you will learn more about the rescue, rehabilitation and the conservation of falcons, eagles and owls.
