SCHOOL NEWS - The Tuskie pride is shining brighter than ever after Knysna High School’s 2024 Grade 12 learners overcame immense challenges to achieve outstanding results in their National Senior Certificate exams.
Despite facing hurdles like pandemics, rolling blackouts, and other disruptions over the past five years, these learners have demonstrated extraordinary resilience, hard work, and dedication, culminating in an impressive 98% pass rate.
The school is particularly proud of the 67.7% of learners who earned a bachelor’s certificate pass, a key metric that speaks to the quality of the passes.
This milestone marks a significant achievement, as Knysna High continues to raise the bar year after year, ensuring its learners have the best opportunities for further study. In addition to these impressive statistics, the school is celebrating the remarkable 59 distinctions earned by just 99 learners—an achievement that speaks volumes about the talent and commitment of both the students and their educators.
Notable achievements include Jaydon Engelbrecht, who scored an incredible 99% in mathematics, and Melissa Witbooi, who also earned 99% in business studies. These high achievers represent the spirit of excellence that defines the 2024 class, and their successes are a testament to the support they received from their teachers, families, and school community throughout their educational journey.
This cohort’s path to success has not been easy. Over the last 12 years, these learners have been taught by a diverse group of educators across various schools, each playing a role in shaping the well-rounded individuals they have become. The dedication of the teachers and schools involved in their development has been instrumental in the learners' achievements. Knysna High's leadership recognizes that education is the world’s biggest team sport—one where every teacher and every school in the community has a vital part to play.
Furthermore, the school takes great pride in the performance of the Eden and Central Karoo Education District, one of the largest in the country, stretching from Crags in Plettenberg Bay to Heidelberg and all the way up to Beaufort West. Under the guidance of Mrs. de Villiers and her exceptional team, Circuit 4, which includes Knysna and Plettenberg Bay schools, achieved a combined pass rate of over 91.4%. This represents a tremendous accomplishment for the region, with 1,099 learners receiving their Grade 12 certificates in 2024.
To the parents, supporters, and the wider community, Knysna High extends its heartfelt thanks. The unwavering commitment and support of families and local organizations have been crucial to the success of these learners, and the school encourages them to remain involved in the educational journey, ensuring that future generations continue to thrive.
As the proudest Tuskie, the school looks ahead to building on this success, continuing to offer its learners the tools, guidance, and encouragement needed to reach even greater heights in the future. Here's to another year of excellence!
