GEORGE NEWS - The George community is urged to rally together tomorrow, Thursday 17 April, in the renewed search for missing local man, Robert Schroder, who disappeared in August last year.
Schroder (58) was last seen on 10 August 2024, in the rugged Louvain-Kammanassie area near Herold.
Standing 1.7 m tall with long grey hair, Schroder's disappearance sparked a major search at the time, but despite efforts from authorities and volunteers, he was never found.
Now, following new information presented to SAPS, a focused search is being organised in the area where he may have gotten lost - and possibly succumbed to the elements.
Rupert Pretorius of the George CPF, who is coordinating the operation, says this renewed effort could be crucial in helping Robert’s loved ones find closure.
"This is a deeply personal and emotional mission," said Pretorius.
"We need around 30 committed volunteers to assist. The more eyes and hands we have, the better our chances of locating something that can bring answers."
The operation will be based at Louvain, with volunteers required to be at the Joint Operational Centre by 08:00 sharp for briefing and registration. The terrain in the Kammanassie mountains is challenging, and volunteers are encouraged to wear appropriate gear and be physically prepared for a demanding day.
This is not just a search- it’s a community effort to bring peace to a grieving family, and to ensure no one is forgotten.
Anyone who would like to join or contribute in any way is urged to contact Rupert Pretorius at 082 822 1870.
