Inligting oor virtuele raadsvergadering:
The Oudtshoorn Municipal Council wil for the first time, broadcast its virtual Council Meeting live on the Municipality’s YouTube channel named, “Oudtshoorn Municipality”.
The virtual meeting has been scheduled for this coming Tuesday, 30 June 2020 at 10:00. The live streaming of the Council Ordinary Meeting has already been scheduled and will be released as soon as the meeting starts.
“Council meetings, in terms of the legislation must be accessible to the public and the media,” said the Acting Municipal Manager, Mr. Reginald Smit. “Section 20(1) of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000 states that, ‘meetings of a municipal council and those of its committees are open to the public, including the media, and the council or such committee may not exclude the public, including the media, from a meeting’”.
Council meetings have always been open to the public until the implementation of lockdown regulations which do not allow the public to attend Council meetings. “We are happy that we can use of technology and social media platforms to make it possible for the public to be part of the Council meeting as required by the law,” Smit added.
