GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - A series of cold fronts are approaching the Southern Cape.
As the saying goes, everything happens in threes and these cold fronts are no exception.
The first cold front made landfall early this morning, Wednesday 24 July.
The second cold front is expected to make landfall in the Southern Cape early Friday morning, 26 July. This system can bring moderate and possibly heavy rain, thunder and windy conditions to parts of the Southern Cape on Friday.
Rough sea conditions are expected to develop along the southwest coast late Friday and along the west and south coast on Saturday, spreading to the east coast on Sunday.
Strong winds (NW to W) can develop along the SW Cape coast Saturday morning, spreading to the south during the day. Windy conditions (NE) can also develop along the east coast on Saturday.
The third cold front this week is expected to make landfall around midday on Saturday 27 July and is anticipated to be the strongest of the three cold fronts.
Rain can be expected in the western coastal parts of the NC and southwestern parts of South Africa from Friday evening, spreading to the western parts of the NC, and the rest of the Western Cape during Saturday.
Moderate to heavy rain with possible thunder can affect the western parts of the WC from when the cold front makes landfall on Saturday through the evening. This can significantly impact regions that have been severely affected by winter storms over the last 3 weeks.
Strong to severe thunderstorm development will be possible just south of South Africa on Saturday through Sunday, however, they are not expected to affect SA.
Will we see snow on the Outeniqua Mountain this weekend?
Snow will be possible over the high peak mountains of the South Western Cape from Saturday afternoon, spreading to the southern high grounds of the Northern Cape Saturday night, spreading further to the high grounds of the Western Cape interior and high grounds of the Eastern Cape interior, Southern Free State and Lesotho on Sunday.
Sleet will be possible over large parts of the southern half of the country on Saturday into Sunday.
