OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) National Championships, held in Oudtshoorn from 4 to 12 July, brought together the country's top majorette teams in a celebration of rhythm, teamwork and precision marching.
Among the standout performers were Môrester High School and Bridgton Secondary School who earned impressive results and brought pride to the community.
Bridgton Secondary School
Bridgton Secondary School (BSS), who are seasoned competitors in the league, also performed exceptionally well, securing 2nd place overall in the Presidents League Champ of Champs. Their consistency across all categories reaffirmed their reputation as one of the top drummies teams in the country.
They also received five first places in the drill category.
Eunique Belelie, a former coach, now serves in a supporting role to assist the young coaching staff. "The competition this year was very strong," she explained.
"It was an honour for us to compete against some of the best in South Africa and still achieve these results. We are very proud of our athletes.
This team truly reflected the spirit of community, a real example of what it means when they say, 'it takes a village.'"
The current BSS coaching team is led by Diandré Jonathan and Diandré Bruintjies, while Miss A Goliath, a teacher at the school, acts as the crucial link between the team and the school administration.

For Môrester Secondary School this year marked a significant return to the national stage after a seven-year absence. "We are incredibly proud of our team's achievement," said Monique Ruiters, head coach at Môrester. "This is a new team that started in 2022 after the Covid-19 pandemic. None of the girls had previous experience in majorettes, and yet they have grown tremendously in such a short time."
Ruiters is supported by assistant coaches Kelly May and Ciarah Wagenaar.
In their first national outing, Môrester placed 4th overall in the Presidents League Champ of Champs, competing against 15 top high schools across South Africa.
