OUDTSHOORN NEWS - A group of four cyclists (Border2Beach) who also happen to be very close friends, arrived in Oudtshoorn on Wednesday afternoon as part of a 14-day cycling tour to help create awareness and to raise funds for people living with Dementia.
Dementia is a brain disorder that causes people to struggle to control their emotions that also includes severe memory loss.
Since the start of their journey on Saturday 24 August at the Beitbridge border near Musina, the group has managed to cover a distance of 1 800 km thus far.
Their main aim is to have covered 2 200 km by the time they finish on Saturday 7 September in Milnerton (Cape Town) at the Lagoon Beach Hotel. Two members of the group, Struan and Lyle Anderson, lost their father (Jonathan Anderson) last year due to Dementia.
"With this campaign, we really would like to appeal to the public to donate funds via this portal to enable us to provide caregivers for individuals suffering from this decease.
"It costs about R2 500 to employ one caregiver. The funds generated will be utilised and evenly spread across South-Africa where the need is identified.
At the moment we have generated R170 000, but our ultimate goal is to reach our goal of R200 000," says Struan Anderson.
