BOWLS NEWS - At a star-studded gala event on Sunday 26 February, Eden Bowls celebrated the bowlers in the Eden district who achieved greatness in 2022, both in district tournaments as well as on the national and even international bowling circuits.
This year Eden Bowls was honoured to have Mossel Bay Mayor Dirk Kotzé among the VIPs attending the event hosted by Hartenbos Bowling Club. He shared a few thoughts with those present before officially opening the event.
Acting district president Henk Barnard welcomed all the guests and thanked all those who had worked tirelessly to make the event possible.
With 40 category winners to celebrate as they received their awards and smiled for the camera, the ceremony took quite some time (gold, silver and bronze medals being awarded for most categories).
Some champs made repeat visits to receive various awards in the singles, pairs, trips, fours, ladies, men's, veterans, open, novice, masters and more categories.
Guests and visitors who had arrived early in the morning were treated to pre-gala event exhibition matches between all the district teams, with the men’s sides taking on the ladies and the three junior sides playing against each other for bragging rights.
This was the final practice for the Eden district teams before heading off to participate in the inter-district and national tournament.
