OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Voters in Oudtshoorn and Kannaland will receive three ballot papers in the upcoming local government elections.
The ward ballot allows voters to choose an individual candidate to represent their ward, while the proportional representation (PR) ballot allows them to vote for a political party. A third ballot is used to elect representatives to the district municipality.
A total of 22 political parties are contesting the PR ballot in Oudtshoorn, while 14 parties are contesting it in Kannaland, according to the certified candidate lists for the 2026 local government elections.
Oudtshoorn
The 22 parties contesting the PR ballot are Advieskantoor, the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), the African National Congress (ANC), Afrika Mayibuye Movement, Bridgton Civic Association, Build One South Africa (Bosa), the Cape Independence Party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Good, Ikhwezi Political Movement, the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa (Icosa), the National Coloured Congress (NCC), One Love Alliance, Oudtshoorn United Front, the Patriotic Alliance (PA), People's Movement for Change, Plaaslike Besorgde Inwoners, Restore Azania Movement, Saamstaan Suid-Afrika, the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Freedom Front Plus (FF+).

Kannaland
The 14 parties on the PR list are the ANC, Afrika Mayibuye Movement, Ahgaman, Bosa, the Cape Independence Party, the DA, the EFF, Good, Icosa, Kannaland Independent Party, the NCC, Organic Humanity Movement, the PA and the FF+.
The PR ballot allows voters to cast a vote for a political party, with seats allocated according to each party's share of the vote. This is separate from the ward ballot, on which voters choose an individual candidate to represent their ward.
The party lists therefore indicate which parties are contesting the PR ballot, but do not, on their own, show in which wards each party has nominated a candidate.
