NATIONAL NEWS - The Western Cape Minister of Transport, Bonginkosi Madikizela, has again said that it is difficult to work with national Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula. Addressing the media at the Cape Town Station on Thursday 28 November, Madikizela voiced his concerns saying "it is frustrating to work with Mbalula".
Madikizela visited the station after 18 train carriages were set alight.
He said he experiences difficulties with commitment from Mbalula when dealing with matters of transport in the province, stating that the Go George impasse is one of the challenges receiving little attention from Mbalula.
"You will remember that when we went to George [on 1 August], myself and him, we promised the people of that area that we will be back there in 45 days. And, because I respect the issue of inter-governmental relations and cooperative governance, I cannot go back there alone. I have been waiting on him since then," he said.
Madikizela said he would write to Mbalula to arrange a meeting to address transport issues in the province, including Go George.
The two ministers visited George in August to take stock of the Go George issue. They met with various industry stakeholders and community leaders. Together they committed to solving the matter within 45 days, however nothing has happened since them.
Media inquiries in this regard were sent to Mbalula's spokeperson, but no response was received by the time of going to print.
