GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A total of 290 suspects were arrested for various crimes in the Garden Route District from Friday to Sunday, 6 to 8 August.
Reasons for arrests ranged from petty crimes to the contravention of Covid-19 regulations and various other serious crimes.
“Most of the arrested suspects will make their court appearance in the local Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Tuesday 10 August, once charged, whilst others were released on a warning to appear in court at a later date or paid an admission of guilt fine for DMA transgressions,” said Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie.
Fines to the value of R38 500, mainly for the contravention of the curfew, were issued to offenders and members searched a total of 572 vehicles and 1148 people.
“On Friday evening, members attached to the Eden Rural Flying Squad and Crime Combatting Team pounced on a house in Dysselsdorp after receiving information of illegal drug activities at the said premises,” said Pojie.
“Upon searching the house, they found a small quantity of tik and almost a kilogram of dagga on the premises. They arrested two suspects in connection with the illegal drugs and charged them for possession of illegal drugs. During the same operation they arrested two more suspects who were found in possession of small amounts of Mandrax.”

Eden Cluster Commander, Maj-Gen Oswald Reddy, commended the members for their vigilance in bringing these perpetrators to book and thus preventing the commission of other serious crimes such as murders, robberies, serious assaults and domestic-related and gender-based violence.
Western Cape management has lauded the members for their efforts that contributed to a safer weekend in the various policing precincts.
