OUDTSHOORN NEWS - A veld fire warning for fire danger index over 75 was issued by the South African Weather Service today, 29 December for Oudtshoorn, Prince Albert and Kannaland as well as other parts of the Greater Karoo.
The warning is valid from today till Friday 2 January 2026.
According to the statement, the warm temperatures, dry conditions and strong gusty winds could result in the development of runaway and veld/bush fires
Fire teams, labour and equipment are to be placed on stand-by.
At first sign of smoke, every possible measure should be taken in order to bring the fire under control in the shortest possible time, said the Weather Services.
