GEORGE NEWS - One of South Africa's largest-ever gatherings of classic Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars will be the highlight of the 28th George Old Car Show (GOCS) on Saturday 8 February.
Over 20 examples of the 'best car in the world' will be on display from 09:00 at the Eden Technical High School grounds.
This year, the show is a one-day-only event with over 1 000 cars and motorcycles on show. A beer tent and variety of refreshment stations, model car displays and auto-related attractions will again ensure that there's no idle moment during the action-packed affair.
Says chairperson of organisers the Southern Cape Old Car Club, Waldo Scribante, "With show day falling on Saturday alone, you won't miss out on any of the exhibits, drive-by parades or musical entertainment. Since crowd numbers grow by the year, we encourage visitors to book online via iTickets or use bank cards at the gate for quicker entry."

The Rolls-Royce and Bentley display will include cars from the early 1920s to modern models. The oldest Bentley on show is a 1922 3-Litre Tourer, and a major attraction will be the 1930 Bentley 4.5-litre Le Mans, which has recently been restored in England and will make its South African debut.
By the early 1930s, Bentley had come under Rolls-Royce's control and among Rolls-Royces on display on Saturday will be a trio of early-1930s models. Other rare and iconic British cars will include a recently restored 1958 Aston Martin DB2 Mk III – one of only a handful in SA. There will also be Jaguar E-Types, Morgans, MGs, Triumphs, and at least one Lotus Elan.

Event organiser Alewijn Dippenaar says the motorcycle section has received a record number of entries this year, including vintage Ariels, Velocettes, Royal Enfields, and a 1960 BSA Golden Flash. "Japanese classics like the Kawasaki 500 Mach III and a fully restored 1982 Suzuki Katana 1100 will also be featured."
The event boasts vintage tractors, too, including a recently discovered 1957 David Brown model. Other global classics on display will be Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and Ford Model T cars.
Scribante thanks all sponsors – George Municipality, MUA, Midas, JP Spares, Standard Bank, Algoa FM, Protea Hotel by Marriott King George, George Herald, Castle Lager and Coca-Cola – for their continued support.
