OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The newly inaugurated Gamka Land Rover Exploration Society was launched on 29 March at Buffelsdrift Game Reserve, just outside Oudtshoorn.
Participants were treated to a guided self-drive through the reserve along dusty tracks and peaks, meandering through the cheetah area of the Red Stone cliffs section of the reserve.
Organisers Peter Hayward and Steve Bosch, set out last year in September to create a club that would offer Land Rover enthusiasts educational and eco-explorative trips throughout the greater Gouritz Cluster region of the Western Cape, a Unesco World Heritage site.
“With so much to explore in this region, including 21 mountain passes exposing incredible geology, botanic, fossil, historic tracks and trails not to mention a marine wonderland second to none, we aim to create enthralling short day trips (with optional overnight stays) into our surrounds and discover first hand what makes this region so unique - and support various environmental projects wherever we can,” said Peter Hayward.
“There are so many Land Rover enthusiasts in this region. In 2019 over 100 Land Rovers arrived in Calitzdorp for a festival,” added Bosch.
