GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - A woman (27) was arrested yesterday, Wednesday 16 March, after drugs worth R120 000, concealed in Jungle Oats boxes, were found in her possession while she was travelling on the N9.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, members of the Rural Flying Squad were doing a vehicle checkpoint between George and Oudtshoorn at about 15:00, when they stopped a minibus taxi.
During a search of the taxi, one of the officers noticed that the Jungle Oats boxes had been tampered with.
“When they opened these boxes, they discovered Mandrax tablets and tik stashed inside,” Spies said.
The find was linked to a woman on board who was immediately arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs. Police confiscated 304 Mandrax tablets, 300g of tik and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be proceeds of illicit drug sales.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Friday 18 March.
Western Cape police management praised the Rural Flying Squad members for ensuring that those who threaten the safety of society are brought to book. The strategic deployment of the squad since it was reintroduced is yielding excellent results, especially along highways in the region.
