OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The Transnet Phelophepa health care train will arrive in Oudtshoorn this weekend to start with health care services on Monday 28 August.
Executive Mayor of the greater Oudtshoorn, Colan Sylvester, expressed the council's support for the services rendered by the healthcare team on the train.
"Partnerships are vital to ensure that each citizen gets access to quality health care services. This train is a beacon of hope to many, and that is why the Oudtshoorn Municipal Council fully supports this project. We are looking forward to building good working relationships with the Foundation to assist its attempt to extend these services to more areas in rural South Africa where it is much needed," said Sylvester.
Sylvester urges the public of the greater Oudtshoorn to make use of this facility. "We invite all citizens of the greater Oudtshoorn to make use of this opportunity of accessing health care services at either no cost or very low cost for the much-needed services."
The Transnet Phelophepa health care train brings health and hope to thousands of rural South Africans in need of access to health-care facilities. The Transnet Phelophepa health care train – the world's first primary health care hospital on wheels – uses the existing rail network in South Africa to make quality medical care an accessible reality for many of South Africa's most remote communities.
This nineteen coach train, with its twenty resident staff members, fondly known as the "miracle train", carries the most modern medical equipment on board. Phelophepa is indeed a journey of hope that continues to make a history of caring. The name 'Phelophepa' combines elements of Sotho and Tswana and, roughly translated, means 'good, clean health' – which is exactly what this traveling health clinic provides.
The train's services will be accessible as from Monday 28 August until 1 September and the following week from 4 till 8 September at the Oudtshoorn Station.
