Firefighters and emergency personnel from different municipalities throughout the Western Cape and provincial emergency services departments took part in the proceedings on Saturday 3 May.
"Well done Eden firefighters. You did the Eden region proud. It is good to know that our region has such skilled and competent firefighters," said Clive Africa, the executive manager of Eden's management services.
The celebrations started with a motorcade of fire engines and rescue vehicles followed by a commemoration ceremony led by Chaplain Robson for firefighters and emergency services workers who have died in the line of duty. Various demonstrations were held by the different emergency workers and firefighters throughout the day.
According to Africa, the highlight of the day was when firefighters participated in team challenges where their physical strengths and practical skills were tested. "The challenge consisted of a series of activities that needed to be completed in the shortest possible time. These activities simulated work done by firefighters at fire incidents testing their teamwork, skills and endurance. The 10 teams were very competitive and a large crowd of family, friends and co-workers cheered and supported the different teams."

Eden firemen who represented the district during the team challenge are, second from left: Ryno Wildeman, Branville Abrahams, Emile Conrad and David van Niekerk.
