GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - Concerted efforts to eradicate drug trafficking along major entry and exit routes of the Western Cape once again yielded positive results when Rural Flying Squad members seized drugs with an estimated street value of R300 000 during various operations in the Southern Cape over the past weekend.
Oudtshoorn
On Friday, 15 October at about 14:00 rural flying squad members were strategically deployed along the N12 just outside Oudtshoorn when they acted on intelligence.
The members pounced on a taxi which was enroute from George.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of Tik with an estimated street value of R270 000. Subsequent to the find police arrested two occupants, a 29 year old man from Oudtshoorn and 26 year old woman from Thembalethu(George), on charges of possession of drugs.
Later the same day, the same team conducted patrols along the R62 when they stopped a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi which was traveling from the Cape Metropole. A search of the vehicle ensued when 14 bags of dagga, estimated at R24 000, were found inside.
The drugs were positively linked to a passenger on board. He was subsequently arrested. The 46 year old suspect from Calitzdorp is facing a charge of dealing in drugs.

Albertinia
Furthermore, vigilant members of the Rural Flying Squad also confiscated three bags of dagga and arrested a 29 year old suspect on a charge of possession of drugs while on patrol on the N2 highway near Albertinia on Friday 15 October. The members noticed the driver of a vehicle acting suspiciously.
They stopped the vehicle and proceeded with a search when they found drugs with an estimated street value of R6000 inside.
All arrested remains in custody. They will appear in the respective local courts once charged.
Western Cape police management commended the members for their commitment to rid communities of drugs.
