GEORGE NEWS - Those in the Garden Route who feel bewildered by much of what has been embraced in the Constitution by the government, will be heartened to hear that David Whitefoord Steward will be talking in George on Tuesday 8 October.
The topic of his talk will be 'Expropriation without compensation and the centrality of property rights'. Steward will be the guest of the Reverend Peter Veysie.
In the changing scene of South African politics and economics there have been few, if any, that have shared more closely the decisive core of action and hope than David Steward.
He began a distinguished career in the South African Foreign Service in 1966, which culminated in his appointment as the chief of staff in the office of President FW de Klerk and secretary to the cabinet.
He assisted in the negotiations that led from a tense international situation to the peaceful establishment of a new non-racial Constitution for South Africa.
That he now enjoys, of all South Africans, unparalleled international respect, is implicit in the fact that he officially assists the Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates with the organisation of the annual summits.
The meeting takes place at 18:00 on Tuesday 8 October at the George Methodist Church, Plantation Road.
It will be preceded by tea and coffee from 17:30. Entrance is R10 per person. Any surplus will go towards the funding of a school bus for York High School.
