OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The South Western Districts Majorette and Cheerleading Association has enjoyed outstanding success at the national championships, its teams delivering a string of podium finishes that have once again cemented the region's reputation as one of South Africa's leading majorette and cheerleading strongholds.
From impressive performances in the performance cheer divisions to precision displays in the majorette competitions, SWD's athletes showcased exceptional talent, discipline and dedication, returning home with an impressive collection of medals and trophies.
The events
SWD's cheerleading teams excelled in the performance cheer divisions, producing outstanding performances against some of the country's strongest competition.
Langenhoven Gimnasium claimed the national title in the high pom doubles category, while the SWD provincial team also secured first place in high pom doubles. Point Sirens impressed the judges to earn second place in the high pom group division. Lené de Kock and Zoë Binedell represented the school during the competition.
Sacred Heart delivered a strong all-round performance in the Presidents (B League) division, finishing second overall in the prestigious Challenge Cup.
The team achieved second place in the mace, small drill leader, squad, display and drill overall categories. They also finished third in the sub-leaders category, fourth in non-prop and flag, and fifth in baton.
Saturnus Primary School produced one of the standout performances of the championships, claiming the Presidents League Challenge Cup title after dominating nearly every category. The team secured first place in non-prop, flag, mace, stage baton, sub-leader, squad, display and overall small drill, while also finishing fifth in the small drill leader category.
Their exceptional performances earned them the overall Presidents League Challenge Cup title.
In another major achievement for the region, the SWD Majorettes Provincial Team was crowned the overall national champion.
Looking ahead
Following the championships, the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (Samca) will announce the official promotions and relegations for the 2027 season based on the national results.
Meanwhile, the competition continues as the Van Reede Majorettes begin their Elite (A League) campaign. The SWD community wishes the team every success as they compete against the country's best and proudly represent SWD on the national stage.
