OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The Garden Route Badgers maintained their unbeaten start to the Yes Play Pro20 Cup with a thrilling five-wicket victory over the Wembro Impala at Polokwane Cricket Club on Monday 5 October.
The Badgers, who recorded their second consecutive victory in the competition, restricted the Impala to 128/6 after the hosts were sent in to bat on a challenging pitch.
The Badgers’ bowlers kept the scoring under control, with Liam Alder taking 2/18 in his four overs and Enathi Khitshini claiming 2/19 in his four overs.
They went on to make a solid start to their run chase through openers Janneman Malan and Nathan Engelbrecht.
Malan top-scored with a composed 46 off 38 balls, including four sixes and a four, while Engelbrecht contributed 21 off 21 balls, including three fours.
At one stage, the Badgers appeared on course for a bonus-point victory, but a few quick wickets brought some tension to the chase.
Pheko Moletsane then played a valuable role in guiding the Badgers over the line, scoring an unbeaten 27 off 27 balls, including a six and two fours.
The Badgers reached 131/5 in 19.3 overs, with three balls to spare, to secure a five-wicket victory.
The Badgers now return to Oudtshoorn for their next Yes Play Pro20 Cup fixture against the DP World Lions at the Recreation Ground on Wednesday afternoon. The match starts at 13:00.
