KNYSNA MOTORING NEWS AND VIDEO - The Knysna Motor Show (KMS), sponsored by Sanlam Private Wealth, was held earlier this year and proved once again to be a major source of income for charities, said organiser Garden Route Motor Club chair Peter Pretorius.
Around 5 500 people visited the motor show, which is now rated as one of the best in the country, Pretorius said.
"The feature displays of the iconic Mercedes 300 and 190 SLS, the Bentleys celebrating 100 years, the Mini celebrating 60 years, and the Morgan 110 years certainly were the highlights, along with the very high standard of the remaining cars and motorcycles on display," he said.
According to Pretorius, all this, as well as "impeccable organisation" has all resulted in the donation of a total of R108 000 to local charities, after accounting for the motor show expenses.
The charities that benefited are Knysna Sedgefield Hospice, Knysna Animal Welfare, the e'Pap feeding scheme for underprivileged children, Famsa relationship counselling NPO, Epilepsy SA, Badisa child protection service, Change for Change who care for destitute families, and HopeHQ skills development centre.
The donation has come at a time when all of these charities are under tremendous funding pressure to meet the ever growing need for their services, Pretorius said.
Over the past eight years the KMS has donated in excess of R600 000 to charity, he added.
"This donation has only been made possible through the support of our sponsors, all the participants displaying their cars and motorcycles, the public who came from across SA, and the dedication of the Garden Route Motor Club team who stages the show. We salute all of them and say a very big thanks," Pretorius concluded.
