SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS & VIDEO - Three members of the sheriff’s office in George are on site at Angie’s G Spot in De Vlugt to oversee the demolition of most of the structures.
Angie’s is a popular stop-over for travellers and bikers on the road between Uniondale and Knysna which leads over the Prince Alfred Pass.
The George Municipality obtained a court judgement last year declaring the structures on Angie’s G Spot illegal. Angie and Harold Beaumont bought the riverside property twelve years ago and over eleven years they added a pub, restaurant, workshop and accommodation to the existing dwelling which in which they live.
Following the court order last year the Beaumonts have had an uphill battle trying to keep their business open and to be granted permission to live there.
They maintain that there is a vendetta against them from a neighbour who wants to see them close down.
“I can’t understand how we were granted a liquor license years ago, live in a building which has been here long before we bought the place and is surrounded by other properties, but suddenly we are supposedly under the flood line,” said Harold.
A final order for demolition was handed to them by the sheriff last week and they started dismantling the buildings last Saturday.
The sheriff and two colleagues were at the property today to make sure the court order is carried out.

The couple received news over the weekend that the municipality has granted them permission to keep the house, providing they submit plans for it within 30 days.
A query regarding the whole matter has been sent to the George Municipality.
“Today doesn’t mark the end of Angie’s, it marks the start of a new chapter, because we have not stopped fighting this injustice by a long shot,” Harold stated.
The Beaumont’s home was also scheduled for demolition but they are now allowed to keep it.
