According to a statement issued by the municipality last week a decision was taken to run the pound until a tender is received to take over the duties.
Mr Nicolas May, attached to the traffic department, with assistance from the department of law enforcement has been appointed as pound master. May, who has been with the traffic department for several years acquired extensive experience in managing an animal pound as he served as pound master for nine years in Malmesbury. He showed the Oudts-hoorn Courant around the pound on Tuesday and explained that all services previously offered by the SPCA are again available. Se-veral stray animals have already been found and put into the kennels.
The services of a local vet are available in cases of emergency and pet owners will also be able to bring their dogs to the pound to be dipped. Reports of stray animals, animal emergencies and general enquiries can be directed to May via the control room of the municipality at 044 203 3121
