WESTERN CAPE NEWS - Twenty three people have died on Western Cape roads since Friday, 20 September.
This includes 10 passengers who were sitting on the back of a bakkie when the vehicle overturned in the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident happened at Ou Kaapse Weg in Steenberg near Cape Town.
Western Cape traffic chief Kenny Africa says five pedestrians were also killed since Friday.
Africa says 17 motorists were arrested for drunk driving. He says the driver with the highest alcohol reading was arrested in Mossel Bay on Saturday, 21 September.
The suspect was five times over the legal limit. Africa says traffic officers in Oudtshoorn had their hands full when they came across six pedestrians who were drunk on the street.
A total of 83 motorists were fined for exceeding the speed limit and the motorist with the highest speed recorded was pulled over in Mossel Bay when he was driving 160km per hour in a 120km zone.
