Unfortunately, despite numerous marketing actions and urging by various levels of go-vernment and communities, students are still slow to register so early in January. South Cape FET College commenced with a vi-gorous recruitment road show during the 4th term of 2012. All possible locations within the catchment area of the college were vi-sited, presenting information sessions, completing placement tests and assisting with the filling out of applications.
This was again followed up with drive-by's in all areas, loud hailing and distributing flyers. The required ITS enquiry forms which are required to be captured on the system, ensured that the contact details of all prospective and interested students were available. These were followed up with a marked positive response.
A well-coordinated recruitment and enrolment plan was developed in July 2012 and regularly distributed for feedback and input from all concerned staff, especially at campuses.
This dedicated plan, setting out in a step-by-step manner all necessary actions to recruit and enrol students, together with vibrant marketing and awareness interventions, ensured that the fruits of registration could clearly be detected at the beginning of the year.
What seemed to be an impossible task, simply meant, in the end, to move horizons. A huge number of students, compared with the same period in 2012, were registered to ensure that teaching and learning commenced as soon as possible.
South Cape FET College is proud and thankful to all staff at the central office and the campuses who contributed towards making this challenge an opportunity. Out of its comfort zone, this college proved once again to be a leader not only in the Western Cape, but also at national level.
