OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Moonlight FC were officially crowned champions of the 2025/26 SAFA Eden Regional Men's League on Sunday 21 June after an outstanding season that earned them promotion to the Western Cape Regional Playoffs.
The Dysselsdorp-based side celebrated their title in style at the Dysselsdorp Stadium, where they thrashed Knysna FC Rebels 8-0 before playing to an entertaining 3-3 draw against Smuts United of Sedgefield in their final home fixtures of the season.
Registered with the Oudts-hoorn Local Football Asso-ciation (OLFA), Moonlight FC competes in the SAFA Eden Elite League. From the outset of the 2025/26 campaign, the team set its sights on winning the league title and securing a place among the province's top clubs.
Throughout the season, Moonlight FC displayed remarkable unity, determination and consistency both on and off the field. Their commitment to success was reflected in an impressive league campaign that saw them play 34 matches, recording 23 victories, six draws and only five defeats.
The champions also finished as the league's highest-scoring team, finding the back of the net 91 times during the season.
Moonlight FC captain Vin-Rey Jacobs expressed his pride in the team's achievement and said the players are eager to test themselves against the best teams in the province.
"It feels great to see our team qualify for the Western Cape playoffs. We have assembled a strong squad capable of competing at provincial level."
He acknowledged that the journey had not been easy.
"There were challenges throughout the season, but we remained united and worked together until the final whistle. That team spirit has been the key to our success," he said.
The captain thanked the club's supporters, sponsors, coaching staff and volunteers for standing by the team throughout the season.
By winning the SAFA Eden Regional Men's League title, Moonlight FC secured a place in the Western Cape Regional Playoffs, which will take place in Gansbaai in the Overberg region on 4 and 5 July.
The tournament will feature the six regional league champions from across the province. Group A consists of Stars FC (Central Karoo), Harambee FC (West Coast), and Moonlight FC (SAFA Eden), while Group B includes FC Kayamandi (Cape Winelands), Saxon FC (Cape Town), and the Overberg representative, either Mtatiel FC or Mighty Stars FC.
Moonlight FC will now aim to continue their remarkable season and compete for promotion against some of the strongest amateur clubs in the Western Cape.
