MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Mossel Bay mover and shaker Dané Prins (17) has created a rap song to encourage young people during the lockdown.
Dané, who goes by the name Onblusbaar, which means "irrepressible" in English, is a Curro Mossel Bay private school matric learner and a junior city councillor.
She has won a number of competitions and accolades for her rap songs previously.
Dané is pleased with how her current number about the lockdown and the Coronavirus, titled Mev. Corona, has fared on Spotify - an internet platform promoting songs. It reached 72 on the playlist.
The song is also on iTunes, YouTube music, Google Play and Amazon.com and it also featured in the MOCCA (Mossel Bay Creative Culture Association) virtual concert which took place on Sunday, 3 May.
The chorus of Dané's song is:
Lockdown, lockdown
Don't go downtown
Stock up, stock up
Better get your hopes up
Abide by the rules
In the rest of the song, which is Afrikaans, Dané urges people to stay at home, sanitise and abide by the lockdown rules.
She told the Mossel Bay Advertiser: "I am telling people, 'Let's be the group who takes the story to future generations. Stay at home and be safe. Don't be one of the statistics - the people who die.
"Let's look on the bright side of the page," Dané encourages in the song.
She points out: "When last could you stay at home and rest? I understand the economy is suffering, but we can rest at least."
Dané stresses that there are indeed positive aspects to the lockdown. In the interview with the Mossel Bay Advertiser, she says: "I know I have had more time for my music and for exercising. You can do things that are important for yourself and develop yourself.
"This is the first song I have self produced from beginning to end, and in all of the aspects, because I actually had time for it. I know people are battling with school, being at home, but I feel I get lots done.
"The main thing is: stay at home and realise the seriousness of the issue. There are many theories out there about the virus, but we are in the situation we are in, so rather be safe than sorry. Make the most of things," Dané urges. "That is what I believe."
Mev. Corona is also on Deezer, iHeartRadio, Tiktok, Instagram Stories and Facebook Stories.
