OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The executive Mayor of Oudtshoorn, Colan Sylvester, shares his appreciation to the people of Oudtshoorn who are rendering services during this critical time.
He issued the following statement today to encourage people to adhere to rules of the lockdown:
The lockdown announced by President Ramaphosa brought us as a country and a town in direct confrontation with a crisis we have never had to face in recent years. Our town is no exception to the challenges that we need to face.
Covid-19 needs to be faced head-on in terms of the special measures as announced by the president. It remains important that we sanitize or wash our hands with water and soap, that we apply social distancing, and that we remain at home except for buying food and medicine.
Since the announcement, Oudtshoorn had seen its second positive COVID – 19 identification. In accordance with the protocols in place has led to the tracing of the persons being in direct contact with the carrier of the virus. This makes it all the more important that we adhere to the regulations announced.
I would at this stage, want to express my sincere appreciation to the residents of our town for following and adhering to the measures.
We, however, need to realise it is still not good enough. The more we can adhere, the easier the task of health, emergency and law enforcement clusters become. We are not just staying at home for own best interest, but also for those in the front line battling CCOVID -19.
Over the past week, we have experienced normal service delivery continuing. We also experience SAPS, Law enforcement and traffic continuing their work and our doctors, nurses and other health workers playing their part. These are the people who put their lives and those of their families at risk for us.
Let us as residents of the Greater Oudtshoorn appreciate their sacrifice by staying at home to also make their work and the work of all the essential workers a lot easier.
At the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 is the Oudtshoorn Joint Operation Centre. The dedication of the representatives of all institutions in Oudsthoorn (SAPS, EMS, SANDF, Health, DSD, Forensic Services, Provincial Traffic, Oudtshoorn Municipality, GRDM) is admirable.
We acknowledge the work you do in your attempts to curb the spread of the virus as well as the operational plans you develop for the benefit of the town. With the assistance of Provincial Traffic, SAPS, the Municipal Law Enforcement and where necessary with the support of the SANDF improved efforts in effecting the regulations will continue in the next few weeks.
We need however to call upon everyone in Oudtshoorn to play their part.
Water tanks received from the Department of Human Settlements had been received and will be distributed to areas where it can benefit the community.
While infections are growing more slow here than elsewhere we remain concerned. In the Western Cape at least 20 people had been admitted to hospital with seven in intensive care.
This lockdown has been put in place to keep communities safe and to ensure our health system will be able to cope with the demand.
Thank you to everyone in the frontline of the battle. We are all part of this fight. Let us all play our part in the fight against COVID-19.
The Lord bless you, the lord Keep you and makes His face shine upon you.
