Update
GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Shortly after the Swartberg Pass between Prince Albert and Oudtshoorn was reopened following recent flood damage, a truck became stuck on the route this morning, 23 June, while travelling from the Prince Albert side.
As a result, the pass has been temporarily closed again for safety reasons.
Motorists are reminded that the Swartberg Pass is not suitable for caravans or heavy vehicles and remains completely impassable for trucks with trailers.
Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, has urged all road users to strictly comply with the vehicle length and mass restrictions applicable to the pass. These restrictions are clearly displayed on traffic signage on both approaches to the route.
Road users are strongly advised to adhere to all signage and traffic regulations in order to prevent further incidents, avoid delays and support safe travel along the pass.
The truck is currently blocking the road and will need to be assisted.
