OUDTSHOORN NEWS - After only six years of olive oil production, De Rustica Estates has proven its mettle as an internationally acclaimed producer of olive oil. De Rustica. situated outside De Rust, was awarded a gold medal for its 2018 Coratina Extra Virgin Olive Oil at the New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC) last month.
The NYIOOC is the world's largest and most important quality competition for extra virgin olive oils and is held in New York City each April. What makes the achievement of De Rustica even more rewarding is the fact that they competed with more than 900 entrants from over 25 countries.
In reaction to the award the owner of De Rustica, Rob Still, said "This gold medal places De Rustica in the top echelon of global extra virgin olive oils and is a testimony to our relentless pursuit of excellence. Recent technical improvements at De Rustica have enabled the 2018 oils to reach new levels of quality."
He congratulated Joop Steenkamp, production manager and Ignacio Segura, De Rustica's olive oil consultant from Spain, as well as the whole De Rustica team for achieving the award.
Steenkamp contributed the quality of their olive oil to the suitable climate and soil, good agricultural practices and the art of getting the best olives to the press.
This international award is another feather in the hat of De Rustica which has received numerous awards over its short history as a new producer of olive oil.
