OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The handing over ceremony that saw Luitenant General Rudzani Maphwanya handing over South Africa's military command to Mayor General Patrick Dube, took place in pouring rain at the Infantry school last Friday.
Approximately 500 soldiers and distinguished guests attended the change of command parade that was preceded by a drilling exhibition and inspection parade by the two commanders.
Maphwanya, a former Umkhonto we Sizwe member like Dube, said in his speech that he has no doubt that the Infantry School is in good capable hands.
While the rain poured down as hundreds of soldiers stood on parade on attention, Maphanya lightheartedly remarked that there is no rain in the army, but rather there is an army in the rain.
After the ceremony, the invited guests were treated to a light meal.
