WESTERN CAPE NEWS - As of yesterday the Western Cape has recorded two more deaths, a 43 year old man, and a 54 year old woman, bringing the total number of deaths in the Western Cape to 15.
Premier Allan Winde in a press release today said “We send our deepest condolences to their loved ones today.”
Winde says as of 17:00 yesterday 17 April, the Western Cape has recorded 812 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection. “While the notable increase of new infections reflects the increased testing being conducted in the province, it is clear from the data that transmission in our communities is increasing.”
Winde says we all have a part to play in stopping the spread. “The most important thing you can do, for your health and the health of your loved ones, is to stay at home. Abiding by the lockdown regulations is of utmost importance as it prevents the spread of the virus, ensuring that our health systems are not overwhelmed and it protects the sick, the elderly and the vulnerable.” He says in short, staying at home will save lives.
The Premier says province have continued with the scale up of the community screening process and have thus far conducted 62 509 screenings across the province. That is a total of 3195 tests that have also been conducted as part of this process.
Screening and testing, in combination with the lockdown process, hygiene measures and social distancing are the best tools we have in the fight against the coronavirus, the government says.
