OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Oudtshoorn Municipality has identified roads across several wards for maintenance and rehabilitation as part of its 2026/2027 Road Rejuvenation Programme, aimed at improving road safety and extending the lifespan of existing infrastructure.
According to municipal spokesperson Candice Biscombe, the programme is part of the Department of Infrastructure’s projects for the current financial year and will focus on addressing deteriorating road surfaces through targeted maintenance and rehabilitation work.
“The work may include surface repairs, slurry sealing and road reinstatement, depending on the condition of each road and the intervention required.”
The municipality emphasised that road rejuvenation does not necessarily involve reconstructing an entire road. Instead, the work will be tailored to the condition of the existing road surface to ensure available municipal resources are used as effectively as possible.
Implementation will take place in phases throughout the 2026/2027 financial year, subject to budget availability, procurement requirements, road conditions and operational priorities.
Residents and motorists may experience temporary traffic disruptions, restricted access and construction activities in affected streets while work is under way. The municipality has appealed to residents to be patient and co-operate with construction teams. Traffic control measures will be implemented where necessary to protect workers, pedestrians and motorists.
The municipality acknowledged the community’s concerns about road conditions across the greater Oudtshoorn area, saying maintenance had been prioritised accordingly.
However, it cautioned that limited funding meant not all road-related challenges will necessarily be addressed within a single financial year.
The municipality said it remains committed to a structured, sustainable approach to road maintenance and would continue assessing road conditions to prioritise the most urgent infrastructure needs.
