DE RUST NEWS - The vigilance of De Rust police officers during ongoing crime-combatting operations led to the arrest of two men after drugs with an estimated street value of R57 000 were confiscated in De Rust.
According to Warrant Officer Christopher Spies, SouhernCape police spokesperson, members were conducting crime prevention patrols on Friday, 10 April, at approximately 19:25 when they noticed a suspicious vehicle in Vygie Street, Blomnek.
“Officers approached the vehicle and observed a parcel being dropped from inside. The vehicle, identified as a Mazda Midge, was stopped and searched. Upon inspection of the parcel, police discovered mandrax tablets.”
A total of 950 mandrax tablets, along with a small quantity of mandrax powder, were confiscated. The two occupants of the vehicle, aged 36 and 39, were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs. The vehicle was also seized as part of the investigation.
119 suspects arrested across Garden Route
The arrests formed part of broader crime-combatting operations conducted across the Garden Route District from Friday, 10 April until the morning of Sunday, 12 April.
During these operations, police arrested 119 suspects for drug-related offences. Small quantities of mandrax, tik and dagga were confiscated during various arrests.
Most arrests were recorded in:
- Pacaltsdorp (13)
- Conville (11)
- Oudtshoorn (11)
- Dysselsdorp (10)
Eight suspects were arrested specifically for dealing in drugs, including four arrests made in Calitzdorp.
All suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in their respective courts once formally charged.
Police confirmed that these arrests form part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and related crime within communities across the Garden Route District.
