NATIONAL NEWS - The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has urged owners of affected Isuzu RG19 bakkies to contact an authorised Isuzu dealership following a product safety recall issued by Isuzu Motors South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
The recall affects 2 586 Isuzu RG19 vehicles, including single-cab, double-cab and extended-cab models sold nationwide between 11 May and 3 July.
The affected vehicles were also exported to Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, eSwatini, Uganda and Zambia.
Brake pedal fault could affect stopping ability
According to Isuzu, there is a possibility that the brake pedal pivot pin may be loose.
If this occurs, the brake pedal may move sideways when the brakes are applied. This could make it more difficult for the driver to fully depress the brake pedal and may potentially reduce braking performance when attempting to stop the vehicle.
The NCC has advised consumers with affected vehicles to take them to their nearest authorised Isuzu dealership for inspection and replacement of the defective component.
All remedial work related to the recall will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.
Owners urged not to delay
Acting NCC Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu urged owners and users of affected vehicles to act promptly.
“A vehicle’s braking system is a critical safety component of a vehicle. It is therefore imperative for owners or users of these vehicles to contact their preferred authorised dealership without any delay,” said Ratshisusu.
The NCC said consumers with questions about the recall can contact its product recall team.
Consumers who own an Isuzu RG19 should contact an authorised Isuzu dealership to establish whether their vehicle is affected by the recall.
