SWIMMING NEWS - After Wisconsin confirmed last month that Cierra Runge had departed that team’s swimming program, we now officially know her destination: Arizona State.
Runge has spent time in Tempe previously, from late 2015 through the summer of 2016, in preparation for the Olympics. Before and after that, she swam collegiately at two different schools, at Cal for her freshman year (2014-15) and at Wisconsin for her sophomore year (2016-17). Runge also swam with ASU head coach Bob Bowman at North Baltimore Aquatic Club prior to 2014.
Runge won gold as part of the U.S. women’s 800 free relay at the 2016 Olympics and also at both the 2015 and 2017 World Championships. According to the announcement from ASU, she will have to sit out collegiate competition until January 2019.

An Arizona State women’s swimming program that was named one of the nation’s most improved programs last year adds Olympian Cierra Runge to the roster at the midwinter competition break.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Runge will have to sit out two semesters of collegiate swimming before becoming eligible at ASU, which means she should begin competition in January 2019.
At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Runge won a gold medal with the 4×200 free relay team, and she spent the majority of her summer training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
