OUDTSHOORN NEWS - A 50-year-old woman was expected to appear in the Prince Albert Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 11 August after the police had seized an estimated R310 000’s worth of dagga during a search of a passenger bus during a vehicle checkpoint in Prince Albert on Saturday 8 August.
The woman was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs after 38.7kg of dagga was discovered in a suitcase.
According to a police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, members of the Central Karoo Flying Squad stopped the bus at about 06:55. “A search led to the discovery of a suitcase containing the dagga. The police said the consignment was positively linked to the 50-year-old woman, who was subsequently arrested.”
Dysselsdorp
According to Spies, in a separate sting operation in Dahlia Street, Dysselsdorp, at about 21:10 that evening, the De Rust Police confiscated more than 660 litres of liquor from an unlicensed liquor outlet in 62 crates of beer and 20 containers filled with liquor.
“A 57-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly selling liquor without a licence. She is expected to appear in court once she has been formally charged.”
Spies said the strategic deployment of Flying Squad members along entry and exit routes into the region would continue as part of efforts to curb the movement of illicit goods into the province.
The district commissioners commended the police members involved for their vigilance in addressing drug- and alcohol-related offences in the Central Karoo and Garden Route districts.
